In this paper, a system analytical approach is developed to optimize the 2-D permanent magnet electrodynamic suspension system which mainly consists of a Halbach array and a conductive plate. Firstly, a 2-D analytical model was built in ideal conditions which accuracy was confirmed by comparing the results of analytic method and finite element method. Secondly, based on the 2-D analytical model the impact of structure parameters on the optimization objectives, lift to weight and power loss, was studied through optimization analysis of PM-EDS, and a system optimization approach was proposed.
