Through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Indonesian government concerns about the optimal power utilization based on the new and renewable energy (NRE) resources such as micro-hydro, wind-turbine, geothermal, biomass, and photovoltaic. This paper discusses the strategy to improve the power system reliability following the injection of some distributed generations (DGs) into the distribution system. The impact of certain component outage to the entire distribution system during the DGs injection has been examined using the fault hazard analysis to determine the reliability index of the existing distribution system. The reliability improvement has also been achieved by relocation or addition of some sectionalizers in the system. It was concluded that the injection of DGs and relocation/addition of sectionalizer brought a better impact to the reliability distribution system. Both methods being combined resulted the reliability index improvement of 30.70% for SAIFI, 32.27% SAIDI, and 2.53% for CAIDI consecutively with respect to the existing system.
