Making the more and more densely-populated cities livable and the fight against the harmful effects of the climate change necessitate the extensive implementation of the solutions applicable in the built environment. Vegetative roofs, with other words green roofs provide a unique solution for transforming traditional roof surfaces into life-giving oases. The green roof built by us can also provide a topic area which can be investigated and educated individually in numerous fields, however its outstanding benefit derives particularly from its complexity. The aesthetic, “fifth facade” topics formed by building a green roof, the ecological (issues related to heat balance, water management, air quality, noise protection, biodiversity) economic, aesthetic and psychological benefits and the relations of all these can be investigated and educated interactively. Professionals and students dealing with climate protection, water management, green-surface management, building engineering, building energetics, building structures, measurement technique and settlement operation can work together. Thus, the complex educational space provides a great opportunity for the extension of modern, cooperative educational, awareness-raising methods.
