Aircraft mission analysis combines properties of the airframe, engines, and ambient atmosphere to determine the overall ability of an aircraft design to meet specified performance requirements. This analysis involves collaboration between the airframe and engine manufacturers, and its outcome is directly tied to the quality of communication between the two parties. This technical interchange is best achieved through a common modeling environment shared by all project partners. The mission analysis process can be streamlined with a tool implemented in NPSS, the modeling platform already used by engine and airframe manufactures to share engine performance models. This paper presents the design of a fixed mission analysis tool in NPSS as a case study in object-oriented model development While the model addresses a need in mission analysis, the broader intent is to provide an example that helps others create models for their own novel applications.
