Challenges in the conversion of a business jet into a regional airliner, based on the ARJ-100 students project

This paper examines the conversion of a large cabin business jet into aregional airliner. The study is based on a students' project conducted at theTechnion, that has carried out the preliminary design steps of converting theABJ-100 business jet into a regional jet configuration called ARJ-100. Variousanalyses were carried out during the project, including subsonic wind tunneltest, CFD and 6 DOF simulation. The major contents of the ARJ-100 projectare detailed, stressing out the major challenges involved in this kind ofconversion, and possible solutions.
