In order to solve the problems in numerical calculation of fluid-solid interaction(FSI) caused by fluid deformation when projectile penetrates into water, a finiteelement model was developed through experimentation by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA software.The process in which a rod projectile penetrates water was simulated at a highvelocity by applying an Arbitrary Lagrange-Euler (ALE) algorithm. The resultsshow that the model is effectively solved several numerical problems. A higherpenetration velocity leads to greater deformation and wear of projectile head andsubsequently an increased rate of deceleration, due to hydrodynamic drag.
