Welcome to the COL1NG 2016! It is a pleasure to welcome you to COLING 2016 organized by the Japanese Association of Natural Language Processing (ANLP) in Osaka. It has been 22 years since Japan last held the conference. While we are meeting here to discuss NLP, there is no substitute for personal contact. Therefore, we have arranged breaks, a reception, an excursion and a delightful banquet to facilitate discussion, collaboration and making connections. We hope and the modern conference venue together with the ambience of western Japan including Osaka, Nara and Kyoto (famous for their nature, culture, history, and food), help to make this an enjoyable experience for all. We hope the conference will result in accelerated growth of NLP.
