This paper suggests a practical method to choose the key location forReal-time monitoring of stinger safety. Three pipe lay techniques werenormally considered for laying of pipelines, S-lay, J-lay and reeling.S-lay has become an important pipe laying technique nowadays inChina because of the water depth. The stinger was indispensable to slay,so it was necessary to ensure its safety. In the view of this, strengthanalysis and stiffness analysis have been done on a real stinger. Thedynamic characteristics analysis has been done to the stinger underdeep sea pipe laying condition. The design wave method was used tocheck its security and stability. And the sensitivity analysis of everyelement of the stinger to the local and overall stiffness and stressdistribution of the stinger has been done too, by which the keycomponents prepared for the damage real-time monitoring could befound.
