As China is entering its "13th Five-year Plan" period (2016 - 2020), national S&T investment directions and strategies are unfolding. The Ministry of Science and Technology has kicked off its first round National Key Technologies R&D program in which fuel cell for automotive applications is one of the six key areas and it is indicated that in the next rounds to come, fuel cell R&D will remain as one of the key areas which will lead to a total investment of ¥20B for the next five years. In addition to this national level of commitment to fuel cell development, all other levels of governments, responding to the "2025 Made in China" national mandate, are looking at heavily investing in fuel cell development and applications aiming to promoting the manufacturing of fuel cell components and stacks in China.
