Distinct friends can have different importance to an individual; and even the relevance of a given friendship can vary over time. To predict friendship strength can be useful to social, technical or commercial purposes. One interesting application of friendship strength is to help people to identify friends with whom they want to reestablish contact in order to keep a close relation. In this paper, we propose a strategy to define a tie strength metric to friendships in online social networks. We calculated the friendship metric in Facebook considering the public of young adults, and found 75 % of acceptance during experiments.
