Operational reliability evaluation for CNC equipment, which is the key equipment in modern production line, is very important. Here, the hidden semi-Markov model (HSMM) is adopted to evaluate and predict the operational reliability of CNC equipment based on the performance parameter datasets. The field data from a CNC milling machine center is used to train and validate the model. It is shown that incorporating the explicit state duration model significantly improves the results compared to hidden Markov model (HMM).
