Performance analysis of TCP for device to device (D2D) communication in LTE/LTE-A (Long Term Evolution/LTE-Advanced) networks, especially in different mobility pattern is very essential to ensure quality of service. In this paper we investigate the performance of TCP for a medium size file transfer using different D2D communication modes. The Round Trip Time (RTT) and the Retransmission Time Out (RTO) is measured under different TCP advertised window size. Various types of mobility are assigned to the handheld devices under some common constant parameters to notice the performance issues. With our extensive simulations we found that D2D direct mode outperforms infrastructure mode in most of the cases except in some regions near the base station and finally we proposed the maneuvering of side link (SL) control channel for further improvement in throughput.
