In Japan, the telecommunications authorityenvisioned the first grand schedule for launching and spreadof UHDTV, called ‘Roadmap’. The Roadmap proposed that4K and 8K experimental services should commence in 2014and 2016 respectively, and genuine (business-based) 4KTV& 8KTV broadcast would be launched by 2020.In 2014, experimental 4KTV satellite broadcast ‘Channel4K’ started and the roadmap was revised. So now, both 4K& 8KTV genuine services are expected to be launched by2018.Next Generation Television & Broadcasting PromotionForum plays its roles as not just a promotional consortiumfor UHD services but also as managing operator of‘Channel 4K’ and authentic ‘forum’ discussingstandardizing the technical specifications for UHDTV, both4K & 8K, to implement the plans envisioned in the Roadmap.This paper provides the outline of ‘Channel 4K’ and itssystem. It also provides the features of the technicalspecifications for 4KTV & 8KTV satellite broadcasts in orafter 2016.
