An Analysis on the Change Characteristics of Urban Economy under the Influence of Yellow Sand in Korea by Using SNS Data

Yellow sand represents that fine sand cloud that goes up to the sky high due to the blowi ng wind is pervasive in the atmosphere and gradually falls down after covering the sky. The numbers and strength of the yellow sand have increased by leaps and bounds since 1990. the strong damage of yellow sand, analyzed by the Samsung Economics Research Institute was not small. The damage was estimated to be five trillion won in industrial damage, 10 trillion won in health damage. The total damage amounts to about 15 trillion won. Considering the fact that the damage of a large hurricane (RUSA) was 5.6 trillion won, it is about three times more than that of a hurricane. In this regard, this study attempted to predict urban economic damage, caused by the yellow sand by collecting SNS data about the changes in the eco nomic activity pattern of urban residents as a result of the generation of yellow sand. SNS data are evalu ated to be big data, which can provide significant information in the behavior change of urban residents with regard to yellow sand in the prediction of economic activity change. This study analyzed feelings, be havior change, and economic activity patterns, which were revealed in the number of monitoring for 19 d ays from April 12, 2015 to April 12, 2015. For compensate deficient parts, it tried to analyze the econom ic activity patterns, depending on yellow sand by performing questionnaire surveys. As a result, negative c omments about yellow sand have increased in April 16 and in April 17. Messages sent using twitters were the highest in these two days. In addition, the analysis results about the words, used reveal that high-ranking words were in the sequence of mask, meat, and cleansing products were the best selling items. This shows us the changes in the market economy. In addition, the use of public bikes tended to decrease when yellow sand emerged. This makes us estimate that urban residents consider going out as negative due to yellow sand. Ther efore, changes in the sharing economy of urban residents under the influence of yellow sand are predicted.
