There is no adequate mechanical stability under aqueous conditions for adhesives based on alginate, due to mechanical properties inferiority (E, UTS and SED) compared to adhesives based on chitosan. However, only adhesive based on chitosan with high CaCO_3 concentration showed adequate mechanical stability in aqueous condition. At the evaluation of the adhesion strength, all adhesives decrease significantly its TBS under aqueous conditions. Nevertheless, adhesive based on chitosan with high CaCO_3 concentration showed higher TBS compared to the rest of adhesives at this condition. It is expected that more CaCO_3 would improve the mechanical performance of chitosan adhesives. Alginate based adhesives do not achieve neither adequate mechanical stability nor high level of adhesion in aqueous conditions.
