The research work is based on 100kW tidal power device design, whichis included in the demonstration project of a 500kW ocean energyisolated power system. The objective of this study is to improve powergeneration capacity and lower cost of the device, under the condition ofthe maximum tidal velocity of 2m/s. The key technologies of tidalpower generation system are related to low current velocity, such astidal turbine type selection, blade optimization design, variablepropeller pitch system design, driving system design and generatordesign. The 100kW tidal power system has been tested in the selectedsite sea since May 2014. The test data shows that the lowest start-upspeed is 0.4m/s, the efficiency of the whole power system is 34% andthe captured efficiency of the tidal turbine is 44%. The present resultswill provide technical support for developing tidal power generationsystem at low current velocity in China and oversea.
