High Durability Electrodeposition Painting for SOFC Metal Interconnector

An electrodeposition painting method has the advantage of coating thickness uniformity regardless of the interconnector structure and mass productivity. But the firing process of the interconnectors coated by this method needs to be developed because non-coated area of the interconnector is severely oxidized if the interconnectors are fired in air. Burning out the acrylate resin in the coating and sintering the spinel type oxide powders are possible in the same reduction atmosphere without the non-coated area being oxidized. ASR (Area Specific Resistance) test showed excellent durability under both the continuous condition and the thermal cycle condition. The Cr diffusion from the stainless steel was also evaluated; it showed high prevention of Cr diffusion. The variation of coating weight in the manufacturing process was very small, and we concluded that this electrodeposition painting method is suitable for mass production.
