In the dust weather, the charged particles can affect the electric field distribution around the transmission line, which will impact the insolation characteristic of the transmission line. Therefore, great effort has been taken by the researchers all around the world. And the experimental study of the air gap discharge characteristics were carried out with the presence of the dust particles. Based on the previous research results, this paper has summarized the influence factors and the influence laws of dust weather to the air gap discharge characteristic. The influences of wind speed, dust concentration and particle size to different air gaps were analyses. At present, most of the experiments were taken under the power frequency and impulses voltage. very few related researches are proceeded under DC voltage. This cannot satisfy the requirements of the large-scale constructing UHVDC transmission lines engineering. Therefore, in the follow-up work, it is necessary to research on the DC discharge characteristic of air gaps in the dust weather for providing reference to the design and development of the UHVDC transmission project.
