Multi-function electrical safety tester for medical equipment application

The propose of this study was to design and construction of multi-function electrical safety tester for medical equipment application which used to measure the voltage, current from power supply, ground resistance and leakage current of the medical equipment. The multifunction electrical safety tester for medical equipment application was composed of four parts: 1) the measurement part consisted of voltage measurement circuit, current sensor, ground resistance measurement circuit and AAMI standard leakage current circuit, 2) the signal conditioning part consisted of voltage divider for voltage measurement, precision amplifier for leakage current measurement, non-inverting amplifier for ground resistance measurement and leakage current measurement, 3) the processing part consisted of Arduino Due microcontroller and 4) the display part consisted of liquid crystal display to show the amount of electricity that can be measured. The results of functional test of the research compared with the electrical safety analyzer (Fluke model ESA620) showed that the average percentage error of the voltage, electric current, ground resistance and leakage current were 0.47%, 2.37%, 0.67% and 1.17% respectively.
