The present work deals with the application of ultrasonic irradiation and high speed dispersion techniques for the preparation of waterbased concentrates of high performance organic pigments. The approach is expected to give stabilization and enhancement in the quality of waterbased concentrates. The waterbased concentrates were prepared under a 20 mm probe diameter ultrasonicator and high speed disperser system while maintaining optimum conditions such as pH, apparent viscosity and dispersion.The role of cocosulphosuccinates in the stability of dispersion characteristics has been evaluated on the basis of hydrophilic-lipophilic balance, color strength, gloss, zeta potential analysis/electrophoresis mobility, zeta potential phase plot and adsorption isotherms for high performance organic pigments such as phthalocyanine blue and carbazole violet. Also, an electrokinetic behavior model was developed under careful selection of surface chemistry and surface morphology of surfactant and high performance organic pigments.
