WAKE VORTEX OBSERVATION CAMPAIGN BY ULTRA FAST-SCANNING LIDAR IN NARITA AIRPORT, JAPAN

摘要

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency(JAXA) is conducting a wake vortex observationcampaign at Narita airport, Japan in order toevaluate the probabilistic properties of wakevortex behaviors. Based on the probabilisticproperties derived from a large number ofobservation data, the current safe wake vortexseparation minima can be revised and airportcapacity is increased without any loss of safety.In our observation campaign, an ultra fastscanninglidar is used to obtain a large numberof wake vortex behaviors with high accuracyand temporal resolution. This paper presents anoverview of our observation campaign,collected data, and initial analyses.
