摘要

The nutritional value of diastic microbes (from Achatina achatina) degraded withmunicipal organic waste (MOW) was evaluated using 18 growing Maradi goats (12 females and6 males), aged about 6.5 months with an average live weight of 8.10kg. They were allotted to 3different concentrate diets containing A (45% non-degraded municipal organic waste{NDMOW}), B (45% degraded municipal organic waste {DMOW}), and C (70% degradedorganic waste {DMOW}) as based feeds. The goats were provided with 0.5kg/head mixer ofgrass/legume ratio mainly 3 parts Pannicum maximum and 1 part Centrocema pubescens. Theywere fed the diets ad libitum first the concentrates at 9am, then followed by the forages at 4pmeach day for a period of 52 days. The following observations were made when DMOW orNDMOW feeds were fed as part of concentrate formulated diets to the Maradi goats; there wasgreat improvement (P<0.005) on all parameters studied. The forage provided at the level of 500g day~(-1) goat~(-1) was consumed at the range of 135.75 g – 141.56 g goat~(-1). The feed intake wasgenerally better (P<0.05) among the goats fed the DMOW diets by about 10 to 19.69% over theNDMOW diet fed goats. The daily weight gain of the goats increased (P<0.05) on the DMOWdiets by about 51.70% to 26.40% better than on the NDMOW diet fed goats. The efficiency offeed utilization also improved among the goats fed the DMOW diets (P<0.05), where the returnon investment was observed to have improved (P<0.05) among the goats fed the DMOW diets.Generally, there was great improvement in all parameters studied in feeding DMOW as part offormulated concentrate diets over the NDMOW diet fed goats. It is therefore concluded that, goats could be sustained on DMOW feeds at 45 and 70% as part of the concentrate formulated diets. This is based on the improvement on weight gain, feed intake, efficiency of feed utilizationand return on investment of the Maradi goats studied.
