摘要

The recent update of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study has dramatically changed the ranking of and priority given to a range of diseases and risk factors. The new ranking raises new challenges for policy makers and scientists alike. The Opening Plenary features three critical views of the GBD study and discusses its implications forthe work of environmental health researchers.
