I-94 TRUCK PARKING INFORMATION AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEM -PROVIDING VALUE THROUGH SUCCESS MANAGEMENT

Truck parking, particularly along I-94 in western Michigan, often overflows onto the shoulders of rest area ramps, freeway ramps and adjacent roads, creating safety concerns for other motorists and for the commercial vehicle operators. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and HNTB Michigan, Inc. (HNTB) developed a reliable, sustainable, and scalable parking information system to deliver real-time parking availability information to commercial vehicle operators through the use of roadside signs, websites for pre-planning, a connected vehicle application, and smartphone applications.
