HIGH LEVEL DEPLOYMENT CONCEPTS FOR CONNECTED VEHICLES

The USDOT, NHTSA and the automotive industry at large are considering the possibility of utilizing connected vehicle technology to provide improved mobility, safety and greener roads. This game-changing technology still has a long way to go to be fully implemented and integrated into our world. However, municipal, metropolitan, and state transportation agencies are interested in understanding what is needed and how they can prepare to realize a connected vehicle deployment. Based on some of the work completed for the AASTHO National Connected Vehicle Field Infrastructure Footprint Analysis, this paper presents an overview of some of the high-level deployment concepts to help illustrate and describe various settings for connected vehicle deployment. An example of a public-private partnership concept will be explored.
