Examining the Impact of Individual Characteristics and Knowledge Asset Characteristics on Knowledge Sharing Behavior: Healthcare Context

Knowledge is increasingly seen as one of the most important strategic asset in organizations and critical factor for business' success and sustainability. Knowledge management concerns with creating, sharing, and managing organizational knowledge as a key for organizational capabilities. There is a growing recognition that knowledge sharing is a key to leverage learning and performance within organizations. Therefore, it makes sense to understand the key determinants of knowledge sharing behavior within organizations. However, prior research focus has uncovered number of key factors that could influence knowledge sharing. This study rectifies this imbalance and focuses on investigating knowledge sharing behavior in healthcare domain as it helps build the collaborative and innovative community among healthcare professionals. Specifically, we review the literature pertaining knowledge sharing, identify the gap in the research studies, and shed the light on the factors that need more future research attention such as individual's characteristics and knowledge asset characteristics.
