The method involves performing instrumental measurements of a descriptor of an aspect characteristic of an individual. An index representing the characteristic is determined by applying a mathematical function to a result of the instrumental measurement. The function in a case is determined by a statistical method using knowledge of values of the descriptor, where the characteristic is expressed at different degrees from data in the case by submitting the characteristic to a panel of people and by collecting scores representing the characteristic attributed by the panel by observing the case. The descriptor is selected from number of spots, contrast, color, surface, form and position. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for evaluating an aspect characteristic of an individual (2) a method for manufacturing a device for evaluating an aspect characteristic of a body typology.
