A Study on International schools in Malaysia and Singapore

Influenced by recent educational reform especially internationalization, many schools are proposing individual learning and ICT equipment.This study aims to clarify the ideal school model corresponding to these changes by survey on three international schools in Malaysia and Singapore succeeding with rapid globalization.The research methods are follows, 1) Interviews of school officials, 2) Survey on facilities, 3) Drawings of representative classroom layout.We founded the common trends as follows,· Unique spaces with human scale are provided for children' s refreshment, social activities and group learning.They lead to promote children' s communication and motivation to learn.· School design corresponds to local climate for developing the comfort and attachment to their home country.· Libraries and student' s lounges are located near the classrooms to encourage individual learning.They are furnished with good ICT equipment.· Classroom' s layout is diversified corresponding to teacher' s preference and subject.Carpet space is arranged in front of the board in some classrooms and used efficiently.Through this study, we found the importance of planning entire school as learning spaces and as social activities.Furthermore, both learning spaces layout and connection between them are significant for developing individual learning and ICT application.
