Besides of the use of Substrate integrated waveguides (SIW) to build microwave components with low losses, they are also well suited for the design of printed horn antenna elements. In this contribution, standard SIW horn antennas from the literature are characterized first with an in-house Planar-3D integral equation framework as well as a commercial Full-3D method and afterwards the set up of miniaturized SIW antenna elements is presented with broadband properties and which are additionally well suited for array applications.
