In recent years, the design of point absorber wave energy converters has been studied with greater attention. Point absorbers are one of the most common wave energy converters. Power electronics and advanced control techniques have allowed the development of new Wave Energy Converters (WECs); in some cases even with the generator coupled to the turbine to form a“direct-drive system”. This paper presents a power converter model integrated in the buoy. Off-shore generation system connected to HVDC grid has many advantages compared to its counterpart of AC grid. The HVDC connection is the trend. This method introduces the DC-DC converter as the most important element of the system. Input-parallel and output-series (IPOS) modular DC-DC converters are a good alternative for high voltage power distribution (HVDC). Full Bridge converters are clearly selected as the main elements to implement IPOS modular DC-DC converters. Many advantages can be achieved, such as low cost, high efficiency, rapid dynamic response, etc. In addition, the implemented control strategy adopts interleaved techniques. This paper proposes an IPOS converter applied to a wave energy converter. Based on the analysis of the converter model, a general control strategy has been proposed. The model has been developed in MATLAB-Simulink software. The results obtained in the simulation validate the implementation of the IPOS DC-DC converter as an alternative design in wave farms.
