Indications from policy-makers are present on an introduction of a EU-wide CO2 trading scheme for non-ETS sectors of heating and transport by 2030. Current and projected CO2 EUA prices are used to analyse energy costs of natural gas based heating systems for single-household residential building in Latvia; thereafter a comparison with energy costs of a heat pump based heating system is made. In the end an annual reduction of CO2 emissions, for a scenario where heat pumps are chosen to a natural gas based heating systems, is calculated.
