Aiming for the applications of 10G TDM-PON access network, a ultra-short polymeric optical multiplexer is designed for the transceiver, using the concept of space-efficient, cascaded step-size multimode interference (CSS-MMI) effect. Three optical channels, 1310nm for upstream, and 1490nm, 1550nm for downstream, are demultiplexed in sub-centimeter length with maximal insertion loss < 1.52dB and extinction ratio > 17dB. Preliminary experimental results of a polymeric wavelength splitter have validated wavelength demultiplexing function at the ONU.
