摘要

Ever increasing power and thermal demands of next generation air vehicle systems present a growing challenge to aircraft designers. Energy consumed by the power and thermal systems are extracted from the engines in the aircraft propulsion system in the form of shaft horsepower and/or engine air bleeding. This energy extraction imposes penalties to the propulsion system performance and also adds system weight and parasitic drag that penalize overall vehicle range. A number of innovative concepts to reduce these penalties through more optimized system integration are discussed herein. These concepts afford opportunities to reduce the penalties to the engine performance, aircraft weight, and aircraft drag, and thereby achieve a more efficient air vehicle design.
