In order to overcome the shortcomings of traditional mechanical position sensors applied to surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors, such as the difficulty of maintenance, the decrease of the system reliability and the high price, a simplified sensorless control method improved from the traditional model reference adaptive system is proposed in this paper. Only the q-axis current state equation is used as the reference model to estimate the rotor position and the motor speed. And it is proved that the nonlinear system is globally asymptotically stable according to the Popov hyperstability theory. Simulation and experimental verification are carried out. The results show that the sensorless method can accurately estimate the rotor position and speed, make the system have good dynamic and static performance.
