Based on the review by Amhost et. al. [2] of 144 modular clinical retrievals across a range of manufacturers, using the Modified Goldberg Visual Fretting Corrosion Scale, evidence of taper damage is not uncommon in modular total knee arthroplasty interfaces. The corrosion scores obtained from the evaluation of the subject CoCr - Ti6A14V revision CCK construct appear consistent with those of commercially available modular femoral implants. Modular connections using CoCr-Ti6A14V did not exhibit significantly different visual corrosion scores from those utilizing only Ti6A14V, suggesting the impact of design, in addition to material selection, on the corrosion rate.
