This paper is concerned with the fault-tolerant control issues for descriptor systems with actuator faults. A proportional and derivative (PD) state observer is proposed to estimate system state and fault estimation of descriptor systems. Subsequently, a fault-tolerant controller is constructed, which is informed by the PD observer. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the fuzzy descriptor observer and the fault-tolerant controller are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Finally, the ship propulsion system is given to show the effectiveness of our proposed approach.
