This paper investigates the problem of network-based synchronization via fuzzy variable structure control, where network-induced delay and stochastic actuator assignment are taken into account. By means of an input-output method, sufficient conditions are proposed to ensure mean-square ultimate bounded stability of the synchronization error system. The controller gains can be obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. Simulation results are given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed criteria of variable structure synchronization and to present an application of the proposed variable structure synchronization method to secure communication.
