摘要

For the first time, a fully integrated electro-optically controlled acousto-optic racetrack modulator is presented on the Lithium Niobate Over Insulator (LNOI) platform. This design takes advantage of the unique acousto-optic and electro-optic (EO) properties of LN to build an efficient modulator that can be tuned to operate at the desired wavelength. We ensure the manufacturability of the modulator coupler by avoiding etching of narrow and uncontrollable gaps. The lower racetrack arm is split using two Multi-Mode Interference (MMI) couplers and EO control is used to tune the coupling condition. The device integrates multiple functionalities on LNOI, hence showcasing important building blocks for RF-photonic applications.
