The study of a floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) has been recently paid much attention by many research groups. Similar to other offshore structures, the FOWTs are subjected to irregular waves and wind loads that cause a dynamic response in the structures. At harsh environmental condition the FOWT faces a lot of troubles which prevent it from floating at upright condition; it inclines due the wind, strong current flow, typhoon, cyclone and storm etc. In winter season, the motion of the FOWT might be changed by the change of gyroscopic effects which is induced by the change of inertia of the blades which experience snowfall and coat of ice. Therefore, in order to investigate the effect of the gyro moment on the motion of the FOWT, we carried out two types of experiments in a water tank using a 1/360 scale model of prototype FOWT. One is the interaction between the rotary motion of the windmill blade and the dynamic motion of the SPAR-type FOWT at small angle of inclination in the regular waves. Another one is interaction between the change of inertia of the blade and the motion of the FOWT. In this paper, we compare the experimental results with the result of our numerical simulations and also discuss those.
