The announcement of National Expressway Network Plan (NENP) was marked as the beginning of a new era of motorway construction and management in China. However, with the rapid progress of motorway network construction, the changes of requirements on motorway network management have been brought forth, this paper is discussing the new requirements via different aspects, including strategies, institutional modes and methods of management. This paper also generally introduces the trunk road network management in UK, in order to take it as reference and make some inspiration for the motorway network management in China.
