The Unknown book of the Ukrainian academician Vladimir Aleksandrovich Selski

In the peak of the "NKVD.;big terror against Glavneft" the heads of this organization were subjected to repressions and some of directors were; executed.-Geophysicist, the oil industry worker, chief geologist of the USSR Seliki V.A. Whose specialization was petroleum, was among arrested. In 1938 the first USSR manual of geophysics "The brief course of the applied geophysics" was published. Selski was indicated as an author of the book and the initials of His name were not interpreted. The book had* a high level of the content but has never been- referred to in other geophysical issues published later. It can't be found in libraries and it is not known to geophysics. The book is not mentioned in the Selski's obituary which contains the list of his publications. Comparison the time when Selski was arrested, the time of staying in NKVD, writing arid publishing the book let us assume that the author of the first USSR manual of geophysics is Vladimir Aleksandrovich. A disappearance of the book can be explained by destruction of the entire edition when the author was behind bars. In contrast to Selski A.V. who became a Ukrainian academician in 1939, the fate of the book was tragic - it's lost and known to nobody: Habent sua fata libelli.
