A compact stacked implantable antenna for biotelemetry with PIFA structure in 402-405 MHz (Medical Implant Communication Services band) is proposed. The antenna has dimensions of π × (7.5){sup}2 × 1.9 mm{sup}3, measured operating frequency of 402 MHz with a bandwidth of 50 MHz at return loss of -10 dB. The used of stacked structure can enhance bandwidth and the round structure can be easily implanted into the human body. An experimental prototype of this compact stacked antenna was fabricated on Rogers 3210 substrate. The design parameters are evaluated by using the Ansoft's EM simulator HFSS, and compared to the measured results. Good agreements are obtained between the measurement and simulation results. Thus, this paper provides a miniature, broadband stacked implantable antenna for biotelemetry with medical devices.
