The IMT-2000 service launched in 2001 in Japan is expected to open up real multimedia services such as video phone, visual mail, video and music distribution etc. With the rapidly increasing demand for providing high-speed mobile multimedia and supporting diversified requirements of users, wireless Quality of Service (QoS) resource management becomes an important and challenging issue. In this paper, a wireless QoS concept and architecture for CDMA cellular systems are proposed and the control elements of wireless QoS are described. Based on the proposed architecture and the control elements, a novel wireless QoS resource management is proposed to carry out radio resource cooperation among base stations. Computer simulations indicate that the proposed QoS resource cooperation controls exhibit superior performance over the conventional ones, which indicate higher satisfaction rate of users and better performance.
