In this work we propose an earth-space FSO communication link that is capable of transmitting data to geosynchronous orbit such that the dependency on optical cables can be reduced. Accounting for atmospheric attenuations and turbulence, we have derived the closed form expressions for the cumulative distribution function and the probability distribution function of an FSO transmission system. Using these results, we offer the exact closed form expressions for various performance metrics for an FSO system such as outage probability, BER for CBPSK modulation, and ergodic capacity (except IM/DD technique, where lower bound closed form expression is presented) for both types of detection [i.e. (IM/DD) and heterodyne detection] all in terms of Meijer's G function. In order to express the results in the form of elementary functions, we present the asymptotic approximation for outage probability and bit error rate.
