Simulation evaluation of the performance in an Endoscopic Surgery Unit

In recent decades, health care costs have dramatically increased while healthcare organizations have been under severe pressure to provide improved quality for their patients. Meanwhile Simulation for performance evaluation in healthcare and the development and refinement of surgical skills has come to the forefront. Several healthcare administrators have used simulation as an effective tool for allocating scarce resources to improve patient flow, while minimizing healthcare delivery costs and increasing patient satisfaction. The performance of an Endoscopic Surgery Unit is studied with the purpose of identifying the best alternative for its operation that maximizes the number of procedures performed as well as the financial result, and helps in decongesting the Emergency Service of the hospital complex to which it belongs, offering the largest number of surgeries that can be derived from Emergency to the Unit.
