Response surface modeling approach for the assessment of the PHEV impact on the grid

This paper proposes an approach to characterize the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) behavior for assessing the impact of PHEVs on the grid based on naturalistic driving information. PHEV behavior is captured by response surfaces of the amount for electric energy consumption and the amount of fuel consumption at arrival with respect to the initial SOC and the driving distance. Response surfaces are created from detailed PHEV simulation results using representative cycles synthesized based on naturalistic driving data. The proposed approach enables computationally efficient prediction of the PHEV impact on the grid with large data-sets.
