An enhanced context aware add-on framework for chromium based web browser for Android OS

In this paper we proposed a simple rule based, context aware framework to extend the web browser features at run time without modifying base binary. This is a very light weight framework which provides interaction of various applications to the web browser so that the web browser can customize or provide additional functionality in a given web page as per the requirement from third party application. This framework also implements extending the default Document Object Model/Browser Object Model APIs so that the webpages can have access to native platform capabilities which are otherwise not possible in a typical mobile web browser. In this paper we present use cases, architecture and design along with implementation of such a framework. We also find related work in add-on or plugins area and provide a comparison study of this proposal with various other existing frameworks. We have chosen a chromium based browser on Android OS to implement and demonstrate the proposed framework however it can be ported to other mobile OS platforms easily.
