Construction of a Historical Information Visualization System by Superposition of Old Map

In this research, we constructed a historical information visualization system utilizing old maps and Web-GIS. Old maps are important historical materials for knowing the history of the region, but there are few opportunities to be utilized. Therefore, we developed a system that learns the history of the region by using Web-GIS in order to utilize the old map owned by the folk museum. In this system, the old map is superposed on the Web-GIS and the historical information contents are superposed on the old map. This allows the user to learn the history of the region via the old map. Furthermore, by using a plurality of old maps, the user can confirm the status of the city after the war and the status of restoration.
