The dielectric properties of a material describe its storage and dissipation of energy when exposed to electromagnetic radiation. In this study permittivity measurements were performed on 0.1 mol/L NaCl from 0.5 –40.8 GHz and from a temperature of 25 °C to 52 °C. This study was done so as to validate the coaxial probe technique. To date the studies published on NaCl are limited to 35 °C and do not exceed the frequency of 20 GHz. This study extends both the frequency and temperature range investigated, this is of particular interest due to the use of microwave thermal ablation. The dielectric parameters for 0.1 mol/L NaCl have been plotted as a function of frequency and temperature. The results obtained were also compared to those previously published were possible and this yielded good agreement. The proposed method is not only useful for standard liquids but also for lossy materials such as biological matter.
