RELATIVE EFFICACY OF HERBICIDES ON WEED CONTROL IN SUGARCANE

Compatibility of Sempra 75 WG (halosulfuron methyl) was studied with other promising herbicide such as atrazine, metribuzin and different formulations of 2, 4-D in the spring season of 2011-12 with variety CoSe 01424 at the research farm of U.P. Council of Sugarcane Research, Shahjahanpur (U.P.). All the herbicides mixed with Sempra 75 WG controlled the population of weeds, significantly, which in turn decreased the try decreased the dry matter depletion by weeds. Growth and yield of sugarcane were adversely affected by weed infestation. Sempra 75% WG @ 90 g/ha mixed with metribuzine 70% WP @ 750 g/ha at 30 days after planting expressed the highest weed control efficiency. This combination oj herbicides enhanced the yield of cane by 15 per cent over untreated control. Individual effect of Sempra 75% WG in controlling weeds in sugarcane has yet to be worked out. Sucrose % in juice was not affected significantly by the application of herbicides.
